 Vitamin E

       Vitamin E is one of the essential vitamins that we must use in our diet. It is an organic compound. It is a plant-derived vitamin. It belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins class. It occurs in many forms but alpha-tocopherol is one of the most important forms which is used in the human body.

       It was discovered by Evans and Bishop in 1922. Later on, the work about vitamin E is revealed in the 1930s. This work revealed the biological function of alpha-tocopherol and its chemical structure.

 Chemical formula

        It occurs in four different forms. α-, β-, γ-, and δ-tocopherols. Among these four forms, only the alpha-tocopherol form is used within the human body. The chemical name is tocopherol.

Food sources of Vitamin E

       It has the following sources.

v     It is present in different oils like Wheat germ oil safflower, Sunflower, soybean oil, canola oil, and olive oil.

v     Vitamin E is also available as an oral supplement in capsules or drops.

v     Vitamin E is also present in many vegetables like spinach, beet greens, red bell pepper, Asparagus, and collard greens.

v     It is also present in many fruits like mango, kiwis, avocado, and pumpkin.

v     It is also present in meat, dairy, eggs, and poultry.

       Vitamins E plays an important role in the proper functioning of the body in the following ways.

v      Uses of vitamin e oil for skin, vitamin e is also used for skin to reduce inflammation and make your skin younger. It is present in many skin products.

Recommended daily amounts

        The RDA value for males and females 14 years and older is 15mg daily. This amount is also recommended for pregnant women.

•     lactating women need high amount than the normal amount. They need 19mg daily.

Deficiency diseases

 Vitamin E deficiency is very rare. Some diseases are produced in the body due to a deficiency of vitamin E.

    Due to deficiency of vitamin E, a form of anemia is produced in which red blood cells rupture. 

   Its deficiency also causes impaired reflexes and coordination.

    Vitamin E deficiency in newborns and babies causes serious disorders of anemia.
